What are compounded medications? How do they work?

Learn about what compounded medications are, and how we’ve worked to give patients access to even more treatment options.

Our goal is to expand access to life-saving weight-loss medications and help you achieve your life and health goals.

Compounded semaglutide is an alternative to brand name GLP-1 medications, such as Wegovy and Ozempic, when these commercial medications are listed on the FDA’s drug shortage list. This post explains our partnership and provides details about what you can expect moving forward.

What is compounded semaglutide?

Compounding refers to the process of combining or altering two or more drugs to create a personalized medication that is tailored to the needs of an individual patient. It is a common practice designed to help individual patients receive the medications they need.

Semaglutide is the active ingredient in brand name GLP-1 medications Wegovy and Ozempic. Because these medications are currently on the FDA drug shortage list, licensed compounding pharmacies are able to offer compounded semaglutide in order to expand patient access. Compounded medications are not FDA approved.
